USC Video games has unveiled the primary recipients of the Gerald A. Lawson Fund.
The Lawson Students are college students from the USC Faculty of Cinematic Arts Interactive Media and Video games and Viterbi Faculty of Engineering’s Pc Science – Video games Divisions.
The fund, named after the Black engineer that invented one of many earliest recreation consoles, was launched in 2021 to extend Black and Indigenous illustration within the video games business.
“We’re proud to assist our college students in making a extra inclusive business that may proceed to push the boundaries of what is doable in video games whereas bringing consideration to one of many Black founding fathers of gaming, Gerald A. Lawson, throughout such a culturally and traditionally vital time as Black Historical past Month,” stated the fund’s creator, professor Jim Huntley.
The primary two scholarships for the Gerald A. Lawson Fund are supported by Microsoft’s Xbox Video games Studios and Take-Two Interactive.
In August 2021, Microsoft joined the Gerald A. Lawson Endowment Fund, and in September 2022, Sony donated $3 million to the trouble.
